When to See a Doctor for Numbness and Tingling, and When to Call 911
See a doctor at the first signs of numbness, tingling, weakness or pain in your hands or feet. Call 911 right away for sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body, a drooping face, trouble speaking or seeing, confusion, or a severe sudden headache. Do not drive yourself. A supplement is never a reason to wait for either step.

The short answer01
When should you see a doctor for numbness or tingling?
At the first signs. Mayo says to seek medical care right away if you notice tingling, weakness or pain in your hands or feet 1.
Cleveland Clinic gives the same advice, and adds the reason: some types of neuropathy can be stopped or reversed when found early 2. Waiting can let a treatable cause go on doing harm.
- Call 911Sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body; a drooping face; trouble speaking or seeing; sudden confusion or a severe headache with no known cause (CDC).
- Do not drive yourselfCDC says call 9-1-1 right away, and note when the symptoms began. Even symptoms that pass need prompt care.
- Call your provider quicklyA cut or blister on a foot that does not heal after a few days, or skin that turns red, warm or painful (NIDDK).
- See a clinician at the first signsTingling, weakness or pain in the hands or feet: Mayo says to seek medical care right away, and Cleveland Clinic says to see a provider at the first signs.
- A supplement is never a reason to waitTreatment depends on the cause. Early checks matter because some types can be stopped or reversed when found early.

Emergency02

Which signs need a doctor this week?
New or spreading numbness, tingling or pain in the hands or feet, and any weakness.
- Numbness or tingling that does not go away, or keeps coming back.
- Weakness, clumsiness or dropping things, or a foot that drags.
- Pain that is worse at night or wakes you 5.
- A cut or blister on a numb foot that does not heal after a few days, or skin that turns red, warm or painful 4.
- Numbness with diabetes, or after starting a new medicine.
Numbness that comes with a fever, a new rash, bladder or bowel changes, or severe back pain also needs fast attention. Describe every symptom, even the ones that seem unrelated. A doctor can only link them if they hear about them.
If in doubt, call your clinic and describe what you feel. Triage staff would rather hear from you early.
At the visit04
What should you bring to the appointment?
Your medicine and supplement list, your symptom notes and your questions.
The list
Every prescription, over-the-counter medicine and supplement, with doses. Bring the bottles. Nervecept's label lists eight ingredients and a shellfish line, and your doctor will want to read it.
The notes
When it began, where it is, what makes it worse, and any falls, injuries or new medicines.
The questions
What is causing it, which tests, and whether a supplement is safe with your medicines 6.
If you have a phone, take a photo of the label panel and of any foot or hand change you want to show. Write the date on each photo.
Tell the clinician about every supplement, especially before surgery or a new prescription 6.

Is it safe to try a supplement while you wait for an appointment?
It is better not to start anything until you have been seen, or at least to ask by phone first.
A supplement can mix with medicines, and several ingredients in Nervecept appear in blood-thinner cautions 7 8. It can also give a false sense that the problem is handled. The sources we read show no benefit of its ingredients for nerve symptoms 7 9 10. See does Nervecept work.
Keep taking prescribed medicine. Never stop or change one on your own. If your doctor says a supplement is fine for you, follow the label and keep your checkups.
Higher risk06
Who should be quickest to get checked?
People with diabetes, people over 65, people on certain medicines and anyone with a foot wound.
- Diabetes: about one-third to one-half of people with it have peripheral neuropathy, and foot checks matter 11 4.
- Older adults and people who eat few animal foods: higher risk of low vitamin B12 12.
- People on metformin or acid-reducing medicines, which are linked with lower B12 12 13.
- People with a cut or sore on a numb foot, who may not feel it getting worse 4.
If you are in one of these groups, a call to your clinic costs little and may save a lot. Ask for a foot check and a B12 level at your next visit.
After the visit07
What happens after you find the cause?
Care follows the cause. It may be better glucose control, a vitamin, a change of medicine, treatment for a pinched nerve or something else.
NINDS lists diabetes management, immunotherapies and prescribed pain medicines among care options, depending on the type 5. Ask what to watch for and when to return, and ask for the plan in writing. Many causes are managed over months, so a single visit is rarely the end of the story. Check your feet daily if they are numb 4.
For the causes in plain words, read numbness and tingling causes. For what the sources say about the capsule, see the eight ingredients.
